The Rum Diary

I have just finished reading The Rum Diary by Hunter S. Thompson. It’s a whirlwind of a ride, intense, hilarious and desperately tragic. It follows the life of an American journalist that goes down to Puerto Rico to work for a local English-speaking newspaper, drinks a lot of rum, falls for his friend’s girl, doesn’t do a lot of work, and ponders where his life is going at 32. I couldn’t put the book down, I started reading it on Friday and finished it last night.

I was delighted to see that they are making a film of it soon, starring Johnny Depp again, who played Thompson in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.
